How do I turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app?

Every sign-in already needs a code EasyTaxer emails you. To use an authenticator app instead, open Settings → Account, select Set up authenticator app, scan the QR code, then enter the 6-digit code and select Verify & enable.

Before you start

  • An authenticator app, for example Google Authenticator, 1Password or Aegis.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings, Account from the menu and find Two-Factor Authentication. Without an authenticator app, every sign-in needs a code emailed to you.
  2. Select Set up authenticator app.
  3. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (for example Google Authenticator, 1Password or Aegis), or add the secret shown under it by hand. Keep the secret private.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code your app shows and select Verify & enable.
  5. From then on, every sign-in asks for a code from your app instead of an emailed code.
  6. To turn it off, enter a current code from your app under Current code (to turn off) and select Turn off authenticator app. Sign-in codes are then emailed again.
